The St. Joseph's Catholic Hospital in details

In St. Joseph's Catholic Hospital, we see various patients with the leading morbidity being malaria, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus with all its complications, cases of stroke or cerebro-vascular accidents, heart diseases, HIV/AIDS, tubercolosis, breast cancer, prostate cancer and complicated obstetric cases just to name a few.

We have an HIV/AIDS program where we do voluntary counseling and testing, testing for diagnostic purposes with the consent of the patient, treatment of oportunistic infections and we give Anti-Retroviral (ARV) drugs, free of charge. The ARV's are given to us by Government, through the Global Fund. From January to December 2010, 3,155 patients were tested for HIV and 289 or 9.2% were positive, 2,905 passed through our ART Program and through the PMTCT (Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS) we had 3,995 pregnant women tested and 105 or 2.65% were found positive. We have supported groups for people living with HIV/AIDS and we do home visits to trace our positive pregnant women and babies born to HIV positive mothers.
